Venture Beat has the story: Google buys Gapminder. This is cool. Gapminder was founded by the very smart and entertaining Hans Rosling who has delivered outstanding presentations at several high-level conferences including TED and WEF. Loic also invited Rosling to speak at the LeWeb3 conference in Paris where I was so fortunate to see him present live. At the recent TED07 he even swallowed a sword on stage; I guess that impressed the Google founders who were also present at the conference. Note that Rosling didn't cash in with this transaction as Gapminder (the software) is developed by a non-profit foundation. More details on the story here.
