Programmer Peter Merholz shortens “Weblog” to “blog.”

August 1999
Blogger rolls out the first popular, free blog-creation service.

January 2000
Boing Boing is born.

April 2000
hebig.com blog launches.

February 2001, my journal is created on LiveJournal
January 2004, I move to Typepad (some steps in between, among others MT)
Some time later Six Apart buys LiveJournal, making it a blog, hence my start at LiveJournal being blogging ;)
