Where is the German Facebook?

There are numerous ideas that can be cloned and localised in the world. I've been trying to follow a few and see if they can be implemented here in Finland for example, but haven't had too much luck yet :)

With regards to Facebook, I'm not sure we have something like that here yet, but we had the Classmates.com type of service cloned here and it still gets quite a big audience every month (I think the owners managed to sell it to Elisa, a Finnish operator).

During the social networking craze I've created my own social app. for college students which could easily be adopted for any other social structure. But, it seems to me that the problem is not creating an app. but launching it within a different market audience. How do you market something in a completely different social infastructure?

there IS a german (austrian, swiss) facebook: it is called studiverzeichnis.de or studiVZ.de (in english: students' directory)... but do not think that it is THAT easy just to clone facebook and to get rich (the zuckerberg guys are not stupid!): there are several local differences that have to be respected and make such a project a high risk venture. in particular, cultural aspects as the german reluctance to network and try out new things. or their subjective riskaversity. beside, in far most german colleges there are no widely accepted college emailaddresses that are actually used. so, there is no easy way to select only students or college staff as your users. this was one of the main USP of the facebook... any questions left?

A great European Facebook is www.philox.eu - looks much better than other sites and is developing an academic side of the site to help students find jobs, internships, scholarships. Very big in Portugal and Holland, but present all over Europe
