Far away


You know you are far away from home when you watch TV and home doesn't get mentioned. The last time Germany made television news over here in the US was during World Youth Day, covering the Pope's visit to Cologne. Since then Germany is just another country far, far away. Floods in Bavaria? Not important enough. No Amercian has been harmed yet and there are more urgent issues. Like San Francisco postponing the plan for a ski jump.

It's just an obersavation that strikes me time and time again: the center of the world is relative.

Actually they mentioned the floods at the end of Nigthly News last night. They had a reporter at the Weltenburg Monastery.
But, you're right, I was actually surprised to hear about it.
