Germany - flexing muscles?

This isn't me doing some silly Photoshop joke. This is the current Economist cover: Germany's surprising economy
It's almost tragic. We all sit here feeling bad and this magazine comes along and discovers that, actually, we are doing great. So my question is: Are we missing anything? Do we just like to feel bad? Or is the Economist trying to tell us something? I'd love to grab the stick and run with it.
It's slightly ironical. There are also saying that only politicians can screw it up now. I only fear that Schröder uses this to his advantage and suddenly proclaims that we are in so good shape after all. Not exactly quoting the magazine, he already did say yesterday (Illner) that we (the voters) just wouldn't notice how good we are doing, but people outside Germany would notice it.
I saw this in Toronto and was as surprised as you but i missed to take a picture :( Seems the rest of the world has a different eye on germany than us.
