Peter Cooper: Why the UK sucks for start-ups
Yet again, interesting analysis. And because I am currently too busy to write my own analysis for Germany, I'll just stick to my previous assessment: there is no German (IT) start-up scene either. Or it's hiding in some far away forest. Or, maybe, inside a castle.

Heiko,
Do you know about the moneytree website from Pricewaterhouse in the US. It details the US VC markets. As you will see by the different regions a few regions dominate the VC marketplace. Silicon Valley, New England etc. Basically the US is similar to Europe in that certain regions fare better than others for capital. Look at New York and compare that to many similar sized areas in terms of money, but compare the population. is there are simiar website for Germany?

Well my guess would be that start-up density is high in Munich and then Hamburg. Yes, it sure is a regional thing. But Europe lacks a Silicon Valley clearly. I don't mind if this "Valley" is in Germany, the UK, France, or Poland... The network effects are important.
