LivePaper

What was Frank Patalong smoking when he said:

Fascinating? I just tested LivePaper and it's anti-web. It's usability on crack. Do you recall those days when companies created "multimedia CR-ROMs" to be cool? That was 15 years ago. LivePaper is like a multimedia CD-ROM creeping up from its grave.

You can't link. You can't copy and paste. You can't bookmark. You have to view the paper in its own window. It's mostly flash. You can't right click. You have to apply to be able to get read access. Search engines can't spider the content. It is playing annoying background music on every single page. And who says consumers are satisfied with 30 second music clips if they can buy the song at iTunes? This is 2005, not 1995. The web is evolving around open standards. Put up walls and you will be left behind. And that's exactly what will happen to LivePaper.

What really surprised me is that someone who covers Internet and Technology for Der Spiegel can be so wrong. Why does Frank Patalong think that there is anything good about LivePaper? I guess we all make mistakes every once in a while.
