The winamp ipod plugin (aka ml_ipod) is a plugin for Winamp. Thanks for the link, Anders.

I am testing the plugin with my iPod Shuffle and it works very well. And it's soooo small compared to the 20+ MB download you need for iTunes.

The most useful aspect of this program is that it can be used with windows ME and 98SE, so people like me can put off an upgrade. But you'll still have to upgrade it out of the box from a win2000+ computer first.
