Looks like Mario had question similar to mine.

He actually got on the phone though and talked to two GEMA representatives, one for webradio and one for downloading music. Both had never heard about podcasting and didn't know if they were the right persons to talk to.

Von Podcasting hatten beide noch nie etwas gehört, aber jeder wollte mir weismachen, dass das wohl in den Arbeitsbereich des jeweils anderen Herren fiele. Lustig.

If the music industry has a problem, GEMA is part of it. GEMA should make it easy for podcasters to promote new music. GEMA should work closely with record labels to make this happen. Everything else is plain wrong.

Or just continue using non-GEMA (creative commons, etc.) music.
