Treets are back?

I give up. I just don't get it. Consumer packaged goods will remain a mystery forever. About 15 years ago (20 years ago?) Mars Inc. (these days also known as Masterfoods) undertook ambitious efforts in harmonizing its brand portfolio internationally. In Germany, Raider became Twix, Bonitos(?) became M&Ms (Plain) and Treets became M&Ms (Peanuts). So pretty much for most of my lifetime, I have been happily playing along and became rather familiar with the new brand names. Maybe it took me 6 weeks, and I stopped referring to Raider as Raider and used the Twix name instead. The same is true for M&Ms. I was 10 years old.

Now look what I just found at the grocery store:

All over sudden, some marketing genuis at Masterfoods must have decided that putting that old and abandoned Treets name back on the M&M packs would somehow stimulate sales. After millions and millions spent on successfully establishing a global M&Ms brand.

Why?

That is NOT Treets! Treets tasted totally different. I'd *love* to have Treets back, but there's more than just the name to it....

as far as I know this keeps the brand property rights active. If masterfood misses it to show the brand in the market - others could copy

Hey, treets is my brand. Masterfoods didn`t use the brand for than five years, game over for masterfoods, now it`s too late you will see....

I have just been in the pub (which says it all) and been involved in a rather deep and meaningful discussion about Treets. Apparently a local radio station has had a quiz today where they say Maltesers were advertised as the sweet "That melts in your mouth and not in your hand". Anybody with the slightest connection with the 60s and 70s knowns this was Treets. If you are ever in the UK and listen to a station called Rock FM, tune out, they are dickheads.

bring back treats we loved them so much there has been nothing by comparison since that fateful day when they turned them into M&MS.
Someone should find the recipe... lets start a club and call it.......... and what about Toffo's?

I totaly agree. We want our Raiders and Treets back. Can someone mail me a picture of the former treets packaging ? (i can't find that on the web)

I agree - I always hated the name M & M's
M & M's - my rr's.
Anyway real Treets were chocolate coloured not like a string of coloured toy beads. And when are we going to have Skippy bars back - mmmm really yummy - or should I say Lubbly Jubbly.

Hi,

well 10 years ago, I recognized hat I was eating TREETS at a party and I was aware that this brand has been eliminated long time before. However the producing plant must have produced the chocolate coated peanuts and sold them under a different or noname. Unfortunately I missed to ask where the product has been bought. Is there anyone out there who knows where the original TREETS have been produced in Europe or Germany. If so, we could check whether they are still in business and whether they still produce this goodie!!

M&M peanuts have replaced Treets. They are produced by M&M Mars Corp. (= Masterfoods).

Anybody interested in buying treets? I found three packages in a kiosk more than 12 years ago and said to myself "hey, they'll be valuable in some years". One package was opened and eaten by a drunken friend, bot the other ones remained unopened.

Nearest thing to what I remember as peanut Treets, still available. Produced and packaged for ChariSnack Exeter (They make bags of weird sweeties sold in offices etc to raise funds for charities) £1 a bag "Milk Chocolate Coated Peanuts" NOT covered with protective coating though so quite messy, but very tasty and very like the odd shapes i remember Treets having. BE CAREFUL THOUGH, THE BAG CLEARLY STATES : "May contain traces of nuts"

Okay, here's what happened: m&m's did replace the original TREETS but the mistake most people make is thinking that TREETS was replaced by the yellow m&m's.
This is not true!
In the beginning there were three kinds of m&m's: the ones in the brown packages (the new BONITOS without the happy faces), the ones in the yellow packages (the follow up to the original TREETS) and the blue packages containing the non coloured ORIGINAL TREETS!
I (and many kids with me) could easily tell the difference between TREETS and the yellow m&m's: the original TREETS flavour is so different!
The blue m&m's package which contained these original TREETS stated m&m's amandel and as far as I can tell they were last sold in the early 90's.
Later on masterfoods introduced a new blue m&m's package and those are the ones that we all know now: the the coloured crispy ones.
Unfortunately these new blue m&m's have nothing to do with TREETS.

I want Treets back, because in the first place, ofcourse i like them , but what's even more imported;I have a very good friend, who unfortunately is very ill and he wood really want to taste the real Treets again,instead of all the alternatives.
So please; do my friend en me en anybody else a big favor:BRING TREETS BACK !!!!!!!!

The slogan for Maltesers WAS "Melts in your mouth and not in your hand", I grew up in the UK in the 70s and clearly remember this, and then when I moved to the USA in the 90s and heard this slogan was used for M&Ms I was found it quite odd. I also found it odd growing up that they used this slogan for Maltesers as they do melt in your hands and make a big icky mess!

glad i'm not the only one who wants to see treets back on the shelves.
and although my brain is probably confusing the yellow package and the modern m&m colours for the actual treets i totally agree that they tasted much better than m&ms.
(i think the melt in your mouth slogan was for minstrels)
