Now what are they smoking?

DFL, the administrative body running the German Soccer Bundesliga, is considering to move games starting on Saturdays from the traditional 3:30 PM time to a slot at around noon - in order to attract more Asian TV viewers. Such a move is likely to meet strong opposal from fans in the home market, as they are typically more concerned about getting to the games and into the stadiums than how much extra revenue their favorite teams can generate in the Far East.

Comments to this weblog entry:

Well, I would just call it stupid PR. Instead of admitting it was for the Asian market they could have just transmitted more matches on German TV and/or Radio.
The Premier League frequently has three different kick-off times 12:30, 14:00 and 16:00 on Saturday. Hardly any complaints about it, but a lot more games on TV (not for free though, unless you watch in a pub) and Radio.
