contribute
today macromedia announced contribute, "web publishing for everyone". let me quote their press release: "The product also ensures that web professionals who build the sites retain complete control over the site style, layout, and code standards."
i have yet to review the product in detail. the official launch is in december. there is a preview availble for download. the introductory price is just US$ 99.
update: i installed the demo and played around with it. nice. but it's not a cms. and it's certainly not the tool of choice, if your site is already powered by any cms solution. it allows you to surf any given site via the built-in browser (internet explorer that is) and then "connect" to the site, allowing the user to "edit this page". in order to edit, a connection is established via ftp, all remote files are downloaded for wysiwyg-editing and then re-uploaded.
however, according to cameron barrett, macromedia is hoping and possibly even planning to build conversion tools that allows you to hook contribute up with sites using vignette, documentum, and some of the other mainstream cms products. but maybe that's in a year from now.
